Ater the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in Ghana, the 2020/21 VGMA was held on two separate nights August 29 and 30, 2020.

Eugene was locked in a tough competition with superstars like Sarkodie, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata, and Dianna Hamilton.

Before the official announcement of the winners, Sarkodie was seen as the favorite musician to win the prestigious Artist of the Year title. Well, Sark’s Oofeetso was trending, but it couldn’t defeat the Lynx entertainment rock star. At long last, Kuami Eugene has broken the barriers.

The angela hit-maker was also crowned the High Life Artist of the Year. And that’s to say that the rockstar boasts 2 Artiste of the Year Ward in just one year.

Two of Ghana’ biggest Reggae Dancehall acts Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, were conspicuously missing in this year’s VGMAs. Their absence is as result of their indefinite suspension from the VGMA award show following their fracas in last year’s event.

Even though the two banned musicians were not included in the event, Charter House played Stonebwoy’s Putuu and Shatta Wale ft Beyonce’s Already.

Self-acclaimed Queen of Ghana music Wendy Shay also received zero award in the VGMA 21. It’s thought that her collaboration with Shatta Wale might have affected her hit song (Stevie Wonder) eligibility for nomination.

But that’s not a problem for the queen. Wendy is doing great this year, and will probably earn wards next year.
