Read on as we take you down the memory lane, trying to wrap our brains around the host of factors that are gradually making Bisa Kdei irrelevant in Ghana showbiz.

Bisa Kdei at a Glance

Before we delve into who, or what is down-pressing Bisa Kdei’s music career, let’s first look at the singer’s brief bio.

Born in 1986 as Ronald Kweku Kdei, Bisa Kdei is a super-talented Ghanaian high-life musician from Eastern region. Around 2013, Kdei shot into the music limelight and served Ghanains with back-to-back hit songs.

He went on to feature top-rated acts such as Sarkodie, Obrafour, M.anifest, Patoranking, and Becca (his former bestie).

As a solo artist and producer, Bisa is the man behind monster hit tracks like “Brother Brother” (2015), “Mansa” (2016), “Atomesu”, “Odo Carpenter” (2014), “Metanfo” (2014), “Samina” (2016), “Azonto Ghost” (2014), “Fakye” (2018) ….. just to name a few.

So far, he has 3 chart-topping albums to his credit. They are Thanksgiving (2013), Breakthrough (2015), and Highlife Connect (2018).

The Mansa hitmaker has won several music awards, both at home and abroad.

In the Vodafone  Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Kdei has been crowned winner of Songwriter of the Year, Highlife Artiste of the year (2016), Album of the Year (2016), and Most Popular Song of the year (2016).

He received his last major music award in 2017, when he was announced as Highlife Artist of the Year at the Ghana Music Honors ceremony.

After taking that accolade, Kdei had no clue his music career would grind to a halt, moving forward.

The Glory Days Are Over

Having moved mountains and set himself as a highly revered Highlife icon from 2013–17, Bisa Kdei started disappearing from the music scene.

His glory days suddenly vanished into thin air. Though he never took an official music break, Kdei’s subsequent musical projects failed to gain the necessary attention.

Once a while, he would release a new song in an attempt to revive his dwindling career.

Unfortunately, Kdei’s fan base seems to be nowhere. They’re leaving their favorite musician at the mercy of public ridicule and frustration.

From one perspective, it looks like the whole issue is a hoax. But in reality, the facts are clear — Bisa Kdei’s music is no longer resonating with the masses as it used to.

So what happened to Bisa Kdei?

Who killed his music career?

Why Kdei Is No More ‘Hitting’

Though it’s hard to assess the situation, the following contributing factors may help to explain why Bisa Kdei’s music is going into hibernation.

  • Rise of New Artistes

Musical artists come and go.

The years 2017 & 2018 saw new talents shoot into prominence in the highlife genre of music. Mentions can be made of superstars like Kuami Eugene, KiDi, King Promise, and others.

Since the arrival of the above young Lynx Entertainment acts, Ghana highlife music hasn’t been the same.

Due to stiff competition, Kdei probably lost a good number of his fans to new entrants. He couldn’t stand the new style of highlife music that was being introduced by Kuami Eugene and co. Consequently, he lost his position.

  • Failed Relationship with Becca.

Once upon a time, Bisa Kdei and beautiful singer Becca were rumored to be dating. During Kdei’s glory days, he would kiss and cuddle with Becca, at every least opportunity.

When the media started suspecting their romantic relationship, the two lovers would deny it.

Unfortunately, at the last moment, Becca got married to a Nigerian man by name Tobi; a popular entertainment figure in Naija.

After Becca’s unannounced wedding, Bisa Kdei was visibly shocked.

People believed that the Mansa crooner suffered a break-up with Becca. The wave of negative emotions probably affected Bisa Kdei’s music output. Maybe he’s still mourning his loss of Becca.

  • Laziness

It could also be that Bisa Kdei just got lazy in making hit songs. We know that he’s capable of recording hit tracks. But now, maybe laziness is preventing that from happening.

Since all artists have unique music culture, we can’t really blame him for not releasing songs regularly.

But for a controversial dancehall artist like Shatta Wale, he believes in releasing new songs every day. Fortunately, his method works for him since Shatta gets 2-3 hit songs every year (except 2020).

Conclusion

Is Kdei a talented musician? 100% Yes! With his melodic voice, Kdei is a blessed talent. But now, Bisa is struggling to save his dying career due to one or two reasons best known to God and himself.

The conclusion is that tough competition in the music industry, plus personal issues may be the main factors killing bisa Kdei’s music career prematurely.

NB: Kdei recently attacked the media and blamed them for masterminding his downfall. Moments later, he issued an apology.

Let’s hope that Kdei can gain back his relevance in Ghana music industry, at least after Covid-19.
