Meet Dr. UN, a so-called UN Global Ambassador who managed to trick top Ghanaian celebrities like Sarkodie into receiving fake awards. Known in other words as Wayne Winston, DR UN has found himself on social media trends since the last couple of days.
This historic scam happened on August 28, in Accra. Dubbed the 7th Global Leadership Service to Humanity Awards, the ill-fated event saw the attendance of about 22 high profile personalities. The awardees ranged from entertainment celebrities, politicians, entrepreneurs, among other media personalities.
Dr UN used the good name of Kofi Annan, the late Ghanaian diplomat and former secretary general of the U.N.O, to fool the awardees. He inscribed Kofi Annan’s name on the plaques, creating the impression that he was giving UN Excellence Awards to the clueless recipients.
Barely a day after giving out the fake awards, news emerged that DR UN had no real connection with the United Nations Organization (UNO), nor the late Kofi Annan. He is just a self-styled confidence trickster and a certified scammer.
So who is Kwame Fordjour aka DR UN?
Here’s everything you need to know about Dr UN, the man who masterminded the biggest scam in the history of Ghana.
Real Name: Emmanuel (Emma)
As a conman, DR UN uses several misnomers such as Wayne Winston, and Kwame Owusu Fordjour. His early childhood friends recall that he also went with nicknames such as Wyclef.
DR UN’s real name is thought to be Emma.
Age: Looking at his sorry innocent face, DR UN’s age lies between 37-40 years. Close friends of DR UN say that he completed KNUST Senior High School in 2001.
Educational Journey to Fraudulent Life
Academically, it has been reported that DR UN was not very good at SHS. He was a general science student who graduated with average results, earning aggregate 24 in the SSCE.
When his results made it difficult for him to further his education to the tertiary level, DR UN entered into scamming as his new lifestyle.
He would sell fake WASSCE questions to students, and offer fake KNUST admission to students, charging his victims as high as 1500 GHS each.
The Knust admissions office reported him to the BNI to authorities. Realizing that his life was in danger, Dr UN vanished into thin air, only to resurface in 2020 with a master plan.
He made an attempt to visit the UK but was apprehended and deported back to Ghana.
Father:It’s believed that Kwame Fordjour is a spoiled brat whose father is a pastor.
Although Dr UN carries himself as a PhD holder who attended Harvard University in the USA, it turns out these are all lies.
Rapper: Interestingly, Dr UN is also a failed musician, a rapper to be precise. His most popular song is titled Freedom.
All that while, celebrities like D Black, Chairman Wontumi, Mama Efe, and Berla Mundi — were all big winners of Dr UN’s fake awards. Shatta Wale took to Facebook to make mockery of the awardees Sarkodie and his UN award bottle.
At a time when we thought this criminal should be in jail, Dr UN was captured smiling and defending his criminal activity. The big question is — is Dr UN mentally sound? Or he needs psychiatric attention? What was his main motive for shaming people this way?
Haha. Anyway, this fake award scheme can happen to celebrities who always want to be recognized, even for doing nothing.
