How The Champions League Will Benefit Manchester United

The EPL 2019/2020 season ended yesterday with both Man Utd and Chelsea winning their tickets to next year’s Champions League.

Qualification for the champions league means a lot to the Red Devils, and if they had failed to make it — the club’s staff, back accounts, and even the players would have struggled in many ways.

Here is how the Champions League qualification will benefit Manchester United.

Financial Benefits
As a world-acclaimed football club with great records, United is pretty wealthy, despite suffering the economic ramifications of the Coronavirus pandemic. As of May 2020, the club’s cash reserves were estimated at £90 million. But that does not mean that a failure to qualify for the champions league wouldn’t have affected their financial strength.

United’s 10-year partnership deal with major kit supplier Adidas, could have seen them lose £22 million if they had not made it to the top-4. This would have translated to a massive pay cut of 30% out of the £75 million/year deal with Adidas. When Liverpool won last year’s UCL, they walked away with almost £100 million.

Thankfully, the Red Devils thrashed Leicester yesterday to secure their 3rd position on the table. And they stand to gain financial rewards worth over £50 million.

Ole Gunnar Has Secured His Future at Old Trafford
When United’s head coach Ole Gunnar, took over from Jose Mourinho, he was tasked with rebuilding a weak squad. And fast-forward to today, the Norwegian manager has proved his doubters wrong. With Ole at the wheel for 1.5 seasons, the Manchester Reds rose from the bottom of the league table to the top. Last year, he ensured that the club qualified for the Europa League after narrowly missing out on the Champions.

Undoubtedly, United have broken barriers with Solskjaer as manager. That said, a failure to steer the club back to the Champions league could have marred his future at the club.

Transfer Hindrances Have Disappeared
United will be very active in the transfer market as Ole Gunnar looks forward to adding extra super-players to his squad. Jason Sancho of Dortmund, has been rumored as a favorite to join Man Utd. However, since star players naturally prefer to head to destinations that assure them of Champions league football, United can win the race for the signatures of skillful players.
