Wendy Shay, the self-acclaimed reigning queen of Ghana music industry, once again showed Ghanaians the other side of her life. On May 9, 2020, the Rufftown Records songstress was at Accra FM to attend an interview with Nana Romeo. Unfortunately, Wendy Shay later ended her interview abruptly, when Romeo kept pushing her to answer irrelevant questions concerning the singer’s supposed romantic relationship with her manager Bullet.
While playing Wendy’s new song “Emergency” featuring Bosom PYung, Nana Romeo started the interview by asking her whether the song was dedicated to Bullet, her secret lover.
Shay then wondered why Romeo asked such a personal and an irrelevant question. Nevertheless, the controversial presenter kept pushing Shay to clarify issues about her relationship with Bullet.
For the first time in her 2-year career, Wendy really behaved well, and kindly begged Romeo to exercise professionalism.
What happened next was nothing short of an embarrassment. Romeo turned the interview into a verbal harassment as he threatened to release photographic evidence that will expose the singer’s relationship with her manager.
Well, Romeo was more like undercover journalist Anas investigating a relationship scandal. Why was he hell-bent on asking unnecessary questions, when Wendy was there to promote her new song?
It turns out Nana Romeo was being too unprofessional. That irked Wendy Shay — so she left the interview on a sad note.
Not too long ago, the same Nana Romeo sacked KiDi from his studios when the Lynx Entertainment singer showed up late for an interview.
The big question is — what at all is wrong with Nana Romeo? He calls artists for interviews, only to disrespect them. Is that how radio presenters are trained to do their jobs?
Frankly speaking, I think Romeo is becoming unbecoming. If his sheer unprofessionalism continues, he’s likely to get fired from Accra FM.
Remember what happened to Nana Yaa Brefo of Adom TV after her controversial interview with Nana Ama McBrown? She honorably fired herself after suffering heavy backlash from the public.
Romeo’s fate seems to be no different. That’s if he doesn’t turn over a new leaf.
Yesterday, the social media spectrum heaped praises on Wendy Shay for behaving maturely and protecting her brand by walking out.
Personally, I also think Wendy did the right thing by leaving. After all, she gave Romeo the chance to ask important questions, but he would not listen.
According to Wendy Shay, she’s fed up with the unceasing rumor mills surrounding her relationship with Bullet.
Assuming, she’s even dating her manager, what’s wrong with that? “Is Bullet not a man, or am I not a woman?”, a visibly shocked Wendy Shay quizzed Nana Romeo.
I think it’s high time we gave Wendy Shay her piece of mind, and begin to appreciate her talents. Her relationship matters are none of our businesses. Like everyone else, artists have their privacy. Nana Romeo should respect that. Finally, Wendy Shay deserves an apology from Accra FM and Nana Romeo.
