But as usual, all eyes are fixed on the English Premier League . It’s touted as the most competitive football league in mainland Europe, and perhaps the entire world.
However, this year’s EPL table has featured rather uncompetitive results as Liverpool FC completely dominated the race to the top. The Merseysiders managed to claim the 2019/2020 EPL title with more than 7 outstanding games to be played.
Led by their seasoned coach Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool successfully lifted the EPL trophy on 25th June, when Man City lost to Chelsea by 1:2. Considering how Liverpoolpicked up form this year, their early attainment of the title is a well-deserving victory. It took them 30 years to bounce back to winning ways.
While the EPL winner has already been declared mathematically as Liverpool, the race to the top 4 is getting tight. So far, first and second-placed Liverpool and Manchester City have cemented their positions on the table, and are automatically qualified for next year’s Champions League.
In-form Manchester United, Leicester City, Chelsea, and Wolves, are now battling to occupy the 3rd and 4th positions. Are you wondering whether Manchester United will make it to the top 4? Read on as we explore the possibilities that lie ahead of the next three weeks.
Manchester United to Qualify for Champions League 2019/2020
“Indeed, Manchester is red! Glory, Glory, Man United!”, sing the fans. Since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford, the energy level of Ole Gunnar’s reds has been elevated. Bruno Fernandes, aka the Portuguese Magnifico, has proved to be a record signing. The results speak for themselves.
Prior to Bruno’s arrival from Sporting in January 2020, the Man Utd squad struggled to find the net. They would often lose points to smaller teams in the relegation zone. But now, their unceasing spell is over.
Fast forward to today, the Man Utd story has changed drastically. As of July 4, 2020, with influential Bruno Fernandes, United have played 16 games undefeated. The Manchester reds currently sit at the 5th position of the league table, with 55 points. Amazing!
At this juncture, it’s obvious that the Man Utd 2020-dream is to qualify for the Champions League. With the likes of Paul Pogba, Odion Ighalo, Mason, Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Rashford, all fit as fiddles — United can make it to the top 4.
To understand why the reds may qualify for the Champions League, let’s look at the statistics below.
Man United Odds
Sitting at the 5th spot, United currently has 55 points, with 5 outstanding games to play against Southampton, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, West Ham, and Leicester City.
Easy peasy for United! Isn’t it?
If United loses only 1 out of 5 matches, that will equal to 67 points.
Chelsea odds
Sitting on the 4th spot, Chelsea has 57 points with 5 outstanding matches to be played against powerful teams such as Crystal Palace, Sheffield, Norwich, Liverpool and Wolves. It won’t be easy for Chelsea!
If Chelsea loses 2 out of 5 matches, they will net a total of 66 points.
Leicester Odds
Sitting on the 3rd spot, Leicester City has 58 points, with 5 outstanding matches to be played against Arsenal, Bournemouth, Sheffield, Tottenham, and Man Utd.
Unfortunately, Leicester is likely to lose or draw 3 more matches due to the above tough competitors they will face. Assuming Leicester loses 3 out of 5 matches, they’ll have a total of 64 points.
The good news is that Leicester City has a higher goal-difference advantage. So, if they tally equal points with Chelsea — Leicester still qualifies.
Conclusion
All in all, the predictions mean that United will probably occupy the 4th position at the end of the competition.
Leicester will be 3rd, and Chelsea 5th.
And that’s it! After missing out last year, United has a good chance to qualify for Champions League 2020/2021.
